Developing the Next Generation of African Storytellers

The AFFC Storytellers Film Lab is our flagship talent development programme, created to empower emerging and early-career filmmakers to tell authentic, compelling, and culturally resonant stories.

Through a dynamic and hands-on learning experience, participants gain access to mentorship, industry exposure, practical filmmaking training, and peer-to-peer learning opportunities.

The programme is designed to guide aspiring filmmakers from story concept to production-ready film projects, equipping them with the skills, confidence, and networks needed to launch their creative careers.

This section of the website serves as both an information hub for prospective applicants and a
showcase of the programme’s impact, alumni, and films.

What Participants Will Experience.

Over the course of six weeks, participants will:

● Develop and write original short film scripts
● Learn to direct, shoot, and edit films using mobile filmmaking tools
● Receive mentorship from industry professionals
● Collaborate with fellow storytellers in a supportive learning environment
● Premiere their completed films at a Red Carpet Industry Showcase

*No formal filmmaking experience is required—only a passion for storytelling, creativity, and collaboration.

Our Impact

In less than two years, the AFFCStorytellers Film Lab has trained and mentored more than 100 young women and supported the creation of over 20 original short films.
