ABOUT US

Introduction

Founded in 2023 by filmmakers Natasha Likimani, Mkaiwawi Mwakaba, Kate Snow, and Serah Mwihaki, the African Female Filmmakers Collective (AFFC) is committed to fostering relationships with women across all disciplines in the film industry. The AFFC founders share a mutual passion for the arts. Our collective experience in the creative sector has empowered us to identify vital aspects that require intervention to drive development. The empowerment of women in the sector is integral in order to drive necessary change within the Kenyan Arts industry and beyond (across Africa).

WHAT WE DO

As women who have been actively working in the Kenyan Arts sector, we have identified the need for women, in particular, to be granted equal opportunities that challenge, grow and express their needs and artistic talents using art as the platform. We are determined to stand up as a collective and fight for our ideas, crafts and voices to be recognised, heard and appreciated. As a collective we have come together to uplift one another, collaborate with each other and take accountability to realize our vision for the exciting, growing, “untapped” entertainment industry. However, we are aware that in order for growth, we must partner with like-minded organizations and individuals who share the same vision, passion and sentiment.

We are exploring partnerships with various women’s led groups and initiatives that highlight the challenges women face in the workplace and in their communities. One of the organizations we continue to engage with is Sisters Working In Film & Television (SWIFT). We intend to collaborate with international filmmakers and organizations that share our vision, such as ARRAY Films, Tyler Perry Studios, HOORAE Media etc. to demonstrate the impact of our work.
